A Weave a Planter Day with Amanda Webb - 4th July 2025
This is a sponsored community event where you will receive comprehensive lessons and hands on teaching on making a WILLOW RAISED BED at the flower field in Yalham Hayes.
Date: 4th July 2025, 1pm - 4pm
Price: £15 (Your donation of £15 will cover Amanda’s time, materials, bottomless coffee, tea and cakes.)
Please note: The raised bed you will create will stay and be part of the flower field.
On the day you will learn:
How to select and Prepare Willow – Learn how to choose the right type of willow and how to soak, and store it.
Basic Weaving Techniques – Develop an understanding of how to weave willow branches to create sturdy walls for your raised bed or planter.
Frame Construction – Learn how to construct a strong frame using wooden posts, ensuring it can support the woven willow structure.
How to Secure the Weave – Gain knowledge of techniques for securing the woven willow to prevent it from coming loose over time.
About Soil and Drainage Considerations – Understand how to line the planter (if necessary), choose the right soil, and ensure proper drainage to keep plants healthy.
Finishing and Maintenance – Learn how to preserve and maintain the willow structure, including treating it with preservatives or replacing broken sections as needed.
The RAISED BED you will create will be part of the Yalham Hayes flower field and will be used to grow and showcase cut flowers!
