Arriving 6:30pm gives you a chance to settle, get your welcome drink and purchase flowers if you wish or eat cake!

ENCOURAGING CHILDREN TO GARDEN, TO GROW FOOD, AND PLANTS AND FLOWERS

I met Lara in the first season growing tulips at Yalham Hayes in 2020 when I ran a promotion to spread love amidst COVID.  She was one of our 'winners' and from then on I was totally drawn to her story and have always admired her dedication, charm and skill!

Here is Lara's Story:

Lara was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and she says that many charities like Macmillan Cancer Support, walking her dog while receiving cancer treatment, and her appreciation of nature helped her through her journey.  A blog about her experience led her to meet her now husband, Mikey.  Lara moved with him where he lived in Brighton then to Somerset where Lara gained her Diploma in Therapeutic Horticulture, also an RHS Level 2, and work experience at Charles Dowding's Homeacres No Dig vegetable growing field.

Lara Honnor founded Skool Beanz children's gardening club in 2021.  Inspired by Greta Thunberg and the millions of children around the world standing up for our planet in their Fridays For Future campaign, Lara wanted to 'do' something to help her community and the nature within it. So she started volunteering at her local primary school running an after-school gardening club and took on a neglected allotment in her village of Chilthorne Domer near Yeovil transforming it into a beautiful colourful and magical children's garden. There the children learn how to grow delicious vegetables, stunning flowers and how to garden to help nature, with plenty of upcycled art and fun. Lara's mission is to get proper children's educational gardens and clubs created all over the country and beyond.
